In 2024, Akin, also known as Francis, came to Nambi Health Clinic with persistent and severe stomach pain. Despite ongoing care and close monitoring by the medical team, his condition did not improve and continued to worsen over time.
With limited financial means and growing concern for his health, Akin required further investigation beyond what was locally available. Through referral support coordinated by Nambi Health Clinic, he was sent to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, where advanced diagnostic testing confirmed a serious underlying illness.
This referral marked a critical turning point.
Because Akin was able to access specialised care and continued treatment, his condition stabilised and improved. Today, he is alive and recovering — something that would not have been possible without timely diagnosis, referral, and sustained medical support.

Esther’s Story: Growing Up
with Care and Support
Esther was born into challenging circumstances and has required daily medication since infancy due to a lifelong medical condition. Shortly after her birth, Esther was abandoned at the hospital and later placed in the care of her grandmother.
While her grandmother provided love and stability, the ongoing costs of medication and transportation eventually became impossible to sustain. As a result, Esther was brought to Mercy Child, where she remained under care.
Living with a chronic condition can be difficult for a child to understand. Like many children in similar situations, Esther sometimes questions why she must take medication every day while others do not. Throughout her care, the Nambi Medical Team has provided consistent medical support while carefully protecting her privacy, ensuring she is treated with dignity and shielded from stigma or harassment.
Esther’s story reflects the importance of long-term, compassionate healthcare for vulnerable children — care that goes beyond treatment to include emotional support, protection, and continuity.
